Competition Rules
Randomaze is a daily race: everyone who plays a maze size on the same date gets the same maze, and the daily leaderboard ranks the fastest solves. The leaderboard is optional, and the plain game is just as much fun without it. These are the rules for getting on it.
Who can be on the board
- You need to be signed in with Google. Guests can play every maze but are not listed.
- In Settings, tick List me on the daily leaderboard and choose a name to show. Nothing is public until you tick it, and you can untick it at any time, which takes your name off every board straight away.
- Tick the box before you solve the maze. Your first solve is the one that counts (see below), so opting in afterwards does not put that run on the board.
Your name
- 3 to 16 characters: letters, numbers, spaces, dots, dashes and underscores, starting and ending with a letter or number.
- Names are screened for offensive words, including common tricks like swapping letters for numbers. A name that fails the screen is kept off the boards, and we may reset a name that slips through.
- Changing your name in Settings changes it on the boards you are already on.
Which solve counts
- Each day has one maze per size (Normal, Small, Medium and Large), and each has its own board.
- Only your first solve of a maze counts. You can play it again after solving it, but by then you know the way, so replays are for fun and your own stats and never reach the board.
- Your maze is picked by the date on your own device, so players in other time zones may be racing on a different day's board.
How runs are ranked
- Fastest time wins. The clock runs from the start of the maze to the step that leaves it.
- Equal times go to the player with fewer moves, then to whoever finished first.
- Each board shows the top 50, plus your own row if you are further down.
- The leaderboard shows today's and yesterday's boards. Older boards are cleared after about a week.
Fair play
- Every finished game is replayed on our server, move by move, on the same maze. Your score is what the replay counts, not what your browser says.
- The game has a speed limit set by its own animations, and a person plays with a human rhythm. Runs that look impossible or automated are hidden from the board.
- A hidden run still counts in your own game stats. If several of your recent runs look automated, all of your runs are hidden.
- We do not publish the exact checks, so that they stay hard to dodge. A quick, confident player has nothing to worry about.
- Supporting the game never buys a place on the board.
